we need art

the heavens, the universe, they are trying to teach me something, it seems.
the other week, when i hosted the "for art's sake" lunch for a cause at the farm, i got reminded that, yes, indeed, in the world of reality tv and fear-driven media, beauty can still captivate people, us.  that is why, i am not at all surprised when friends and enthusiasts showed up to support our cause and helped us in celebrating this feb's arts month.
and it does not only involve the visual arts.
my good friend matt, with my other good friends with whom friendships date back to hs years, spend time to practice and perfect their music:  matt plays the accordion, john the bass guitar, audie and pete, the classical guitar and banduria, marino the drums and the other day jerome joined the band with his electric guitar and does lead.  of course, they cannot do without the vocals of michael!
they spend night after night listening and rehearsing their music, most of which are local folk songs composed, written, arranged and sang by local artists, in matt's music room, a place just a stone's throw away from the cafe des artes.

bing and bembot, with michael, they had their own contribution to the festival, too.  there were folk dances and songs and accompaniments.
i see all these, and i realize:  there is still a place for great art in this world.  still a place for artists.
these friends of mine - these artists -  are doing something that borderlines on obsession!  they are tirelessly working their fingers to the bone to create something important and meaningful.  they are spending more time on their craft than they ever will be rewarded for.
but it does not matter.  because they are creating art.  and while the 'reward" may never come, they will leave a legacy.

thank you!  you inspire me more than you will ever know, and more than i can ever tell.  ilysm!  ♥ ♥ ♥
